My name is {{childName}}, and this is an important story about staying safe in a bushfire. A bushfire is a large fire that can spread through bush, grass, or trees. Most days there is no fire near us. Once in a while, a fire gets close, and our family needs to leave to stay safe.

a grown-up has a plan to keep us safe. We pack a few important things, get in the car, and drive to a safer place, like a friend's house or a safe centre. I can bring one special comfort item with me if there is room.

A bushfire can feel scary. I might feel worried, and the air might smell smoky. Firefighters and grown-ups are working hard to keep people safe. I can stay close to a grown-up and take slow breaths.

When the danger has passed, the grown-ups will know what happens next. The most important thing is that my family is safe and together. I am learning that leaving for a little while keeps us safe.
