My name is {{childName}}. This is my story about what to do when someone is unkind to me. Sometimes a person says or does something unkind. It can make me feel hurt, sad, or angry. Those feelings make sense — unkindness does not feel nice to anyone.

Unkind words are about the person who says them, not about me. It is not my fault when someone is unkind. I am still the same good person I was before the unkind words.

When someone is unkind, I have a plan. I can say, 'Stop, I don't like that.' I can walk away. I can tell a grown-up or another trusted adult what happened. Telling an adult is not tattling — it keeps everyone safe, including the other person.

After a while, the hurt feeling gets smaller. Talking to someone who cares about me helps it shrink faster. I have people who care about me very much. Unkind moments pass, and the people who love me stay.
